Details

  • The advisory assignment supports the Solar Pledge East Africa (SPEA) project and Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers with the aim of strengthening renewable energy systems and education in Uganda and Kenya. For SPEA, the advisor provides technical guidance to diocesan partners in Gulu and Lodwar, supporting the gender-sensitive planning, implementation, and sustainability of Solar PV installations in schools and health centers. This includes establishing demonstration sites, recruiting and training energy officers, researching best practices, and developing a transnational support platform for long-term scalability beyond the pilot phase.
  • In parallel, the advisor supports the Don Bosco TVET centers in Uganda and Rwanda to enhance the quality of Solar PV and electrical training. This involves upgrading and maintaining solar labs, exploring integration of other renewable energy technologies, and adapting existing curricula to include green modules. The advisor also fosters partnerships with companies and interest groups in the solar technology sector to strengthen practical training and employment opportunities for students. Together, these efforts contribute to sustainable energy access and climate-friendly vocational training systems.
  • SDG targets: 4.4; 7.1; 7.2; 13.3
