Directly involved 6.592 people of which 3.886 will be represented by girls, women-headed households and women with husbands, which is 59 %. Particular attention is paid to the inclusion of people with disabilities.
The Borana zone is located in the south of the province of Oromia. Majority of them are pastoralist cattle farmers, i.e. the men and boys move with the cattle from watering place to watering place while the elderly, women and children live in villages. Because of this lifestyle, families are very vulnerable to drought, water shortages and livestock diseases. Conflicts between clans over livestock and water resources also occur regularly during dry seasons. Due to the sparse settlement, geographical remoteness and ethnic marginalisation, Borana is very inadequately provided with infrastructure, especially school and health care are hardly available.
The development organisation SCORE, founded in 1972, works under the Social and Development Commission of the Vicariate of Soddo. The organisation works with an integrated community-based development approach.
