The Ziguinchor region has great economic potential thanks to its rich forest resources, favorable agricultural environment, livestock farming and tourism, which promotes the region's resilience in terms of food and nutrition. However, this potential is in a situation of progressive degradation, largely due to the effects of climate change, which is manifested by the loss or alteration of vegetation cover, resulting in heavy rainwater runoff that causes erosion and leads to iron accumulation and acidification of rice fields.
Caritas Ziguinchor contributes to the implementation of government policies to combat poverty and promote holistic and sustainable development. They have a strong presence in the region and are active in almost all areas of socio-economic life. Their main themes are food security, resilience, WASH, peace and security.
