Strengthening the resilience and participation of women and young people in the face of food insecurity and climate change by 2026 in the intervention areas of the Senegal programme.
Indirectly involved: 2.730 people (2.457 women and 273 men), learners in 60 Reflect classes. Directly involved: Approx. 13.600 people in the households of direct participants.
ALPHADEV has been working with all partner organisations based on the Reflect approach since 2016. Through this approach, the participants of the cercles (literacy classes) are not only literate in the national languages (Wolof, Serer, Manding), but also contents such as horticulture, marketing of products, management of microcredits, environment, hygiene, nutrition, etc. are taught and discussed in the courses, taking into account the everyday life of the participants. This approach therefore not only serves literacy, but is also a tool for imparting knowledge, capacity building in various areas as well as a space for empowerment and strengthening the autonomy of women. In recent years, ALPHADEV has trained the local teachers and the focal points of the partner organisations in the special Reflect techniques. These circles all carry out income-generating activities and are only selectively supported by the partners and ALPHADEV.
The NGO ALPHADEV, based in Malika (near Dakar), was founded in 2003 and works on the topic of functional literacy and gender. The organisation has around 7-10 employees and has been running a dual vocational training project for several years. The cooperation with horizont3000 began in 2016.
