horizont3000 is launching Solar-Powered Schools for Sustainable Futures, the second major initiative under our Solar Pledge East Africa (SPEA) program. This three-year project marks the 10th anniversary of Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ and responds to the urgent need for climate action in East Africa.
What will the project do?

Why does it matter?
Northern Uganda and Turkana County face severe energy poverty and climate vulnerability. By combining renewable energy access with faith-driven environmental education, the project empowers schools as catalysts for change—improving learning conditions, safety, and community resilience.
Experience from the pilot phase shows how solar power can extend study hours, improve safety in classrooms and dormitories, and give schools and students new digital learning opportunities. The project map highlights what SPEA has achieved so far and what the next phase can deliver.
Budget & Call for Support
The project requires €616,000 for solar infrastructure, training, and outreach. Base funding has already been secured, and additional contributions are now needed to fully launch the project.
If you are interested to support, learn more about our funding packages, or directly get in touch with our project coordinator.
