An initiative supporting children along their educational journey

Notebooks that will soon be filled with stories, crayons that will bring new drawings to life, and books that will spark imagination arrived in classrooms across Ciudad Sandino in the final days of July. For thousands of students, these materials represent much more than school supplies: they are a means of support to help them continue learning, exploring, and developing their potential.

From 27 to 30 July 2026, 5,164 students and 150 teachers from 21 preschool and primary education centres, in the municipality of Ciudad Sandino, Nicaragua, received school kits and educational support materials as part of an initiative aimed at supporting their educational journey.

This distribution was made possible through the joint efforts of horizont3000, the Centro de Educación y Capacitación Integral Hna. Maura Clarke (CECIM), and the Municipal Delegation of the Ministry of Education (MINED), who coordinated the process to ensure that the kits reached the beneficiary schools directly.

The initiative received support from the Austrian organisations Sei So Frei and Querklang, whose contribution made it possible for these materials to reach thousands of students and teachers.

For many families who struggle financially, this distribution represents valuable support throughout the school year. For many girls and boys, it means having the basic school supplies they need to participate in classroom activities and continue developing their skills. For teachers, it provides support to strengthen their educational work.

“These materials they have brought us will help each child continue developing and growing, so that their creativity can keep flourishing. I feel very grateful and blessed for the support they are giving us”

The distribution took place as part of the commemoration of Student Day in Nicaragua, a date that recognises the enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment of thousands of students who are building their path toward the future from their classrooms.

This initiative reflects how development cooperation can help create conditions for girls and boys to develop their capacities and continue learning. Through partnerships with local organisations and education stakeholders, horizont3000 supports processes that place people and their development at the centre.

Because supporting education also means opening pathways towards communities with more opportunities, both today and for the future.
