What makes a story resonate with people? How can an organisation communicate its work so that its messages reach wider audiences and generate greater impact?

These were some of the questions that guided the in-person workshop on Social Marketing and Digital Communication with a Gender Perspective, held in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua in July and August 2026. Across all three countries, the training process created spaces for learning by doing, sharing experiences and turning lessons learned into practical tools that organisations can use in their work.

During the workshops, representatives from 13 horizont3000 partner organisations explored social marketing strategies, digital communication, content creation and storytelling, incorporating a gender perspective into how they communicate their initiatives, results and impact.

Through practical exercises, case studies and collaborative work, communication focal points explored new ways to tell the stories emerging from their communities, identify the messages they want to convey and use digital channels more strategically to connect with different audiences.

The learning-by-doing approach enabled participants to put the content directly into practice. Rather than focusing solely on concepts, they had the opportunity to create, test, receive feedback on and improve their own communication materials and messages.

Beyond learning new tools, the workshop highlighted a fundamental idea: communication is also a way to build trust. Every post, photograph, video or story can help raise the visibility of organisations’ work, reach new audiences and showcase the changes taking place in communities.

This process is part of the support that horizont3000 provides to its partner organisations through the Advisory Programme in Social Media and Web, which aims to strengthen their communication and visibility capacities and provide practical tools they can incorporate into their strategies and day-to-day work.

Behind every project are stories worth telling: stories of people, communities and organisations creating change. When these stories are communicated effectively, they can reach further and connect with more people.
