Our Organsation

The Diocese of Lodwar was founded in 1968 and operates mainly in Turkana County, across all its seven sub-counties, covering an area of 77,000 square kilometers with a population of 926,976. The Diocese manages a significant number of institutions providing basic educational, health and social welfare services. An overview of the education services is provided in the table above.

The Diocese of Lodwar promotes environmental conservation and sustainable energy in Turkana County. They have planted over 14,000 trees despite drought and launched a community-based climate adaptation project. Their renewable energy efforts include solar installations and energy-saving stoves, managed by the Water Department’s Pump Maintenance Unit (PMU), supported by horizont3000, Friends of Turkana, Missio Austria, and UNICEF. These efforts enhance climate resilience and sustainable development in the region.

more about us

Our Values

dignity for all
We are guided by a vision of global justice rooted in solidarity. Climate justice for us means recognizing the disproportionate burdens on the Global South caused by the lifestyles and emissions of industrialized nations. We support the right to a dignified life and sustainable development. Justice, participation, and the preservation of creation are core principles of our mission.

Why We Joined the Idea

climate justice
We believe climate justice must go beyond technical solutions. It must address power structures, colonial legacies, and economic systems that drive inequality. We joined the Solar Pledge to strengthen communities that face the harshest consequences of climate change—especially in Africa —by amplifying local voices and supporting renewable energy as a tool for empowerment and equity.

Expected Impact

strengthen education
By supporting local solar projects, we help reduce energy poverty, strengthen education and healthcare systems, and build resilience in vulnerable communities. The shift to decentralized renewable energy promotes participation, independence, and ecological sustainability. Our goal is not just technical transformation, but a more just and inclusive global future shaped by those most affected.
