Strengthening education among children in the Municipality of León.
Directly involved: 2.155 children and adolescents. Indirectly involved: 57.641 inhabitants.
Even though access to education is a given in Nicaragua, many parents on the poverty-stricken outskirts of Leon cannot afford school materials for their children and the schools only have the most essential resources at their disposal. In order for the children to learn well and with joy, a solid supply of teaching materials and school utensils is of great importance and promotes enthusiasm for education. At two schools in the municipality of Leon, school boxes containing selected teaching materials such as textbooks and maps, as well as various school supplies such as exercise books, pencils, rulers and some small playful surprises are distributed to over 2.000 pupils. Additionally, the materials give teachers more opportunities to organise their lessons.
Asociación MARY BARREDA (AMB), a non-profit with Christian orientation based on liberation theology, founded 1989 in Nicaragua, works in rural and urban areas of the department of León. It contributes to a just society. Its vision is that children, adolescents, young people and adult women can claim their rights in a safe environment.
